The art of china painting is the decoration of white, non-porous porcelain, using color pigments mixed with a glaze medium.

 

China paints are formed from mineral compounds and flux.  Flux is a finely ground glass which is similar to the composition of porcelain glaze.

 

Porcelain painting differs from ceramics.  The whiteness of the porcelain allows for a pure, glaze color and a polished smooth surface.

 

Each piece of porcelain is hand painted and then fired in a kiln.  A minimum of three to four firings are used to complete one piece of art work. For detailed work(click here).  Once fired and fused to the glaze, the piece won’t fade of discolor.
